Cody Brown Memorial Scholarship Previous Winners

 

 

2004 winner ~ Kali Jo Cetak

Kali Jo Cetak is currently in her 5th and last year at Linfield College/Portland Campus.  She will graduate in May, with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.   Kali plans to work as a hospital RN for two years and then obtain a Masters Degree with a clinical specialty. Kali recently became engaged to Ryan Knauss, a graduate student at George Fox University.

 

2005 winner ~ Danny Hibbard

Danny Hibbard is currently attending Pacific Lutheran University and is entering his senior year.  He has declared majors in both biology and chemistry with a biochemistry emphasis.  Danny is currently applying to medical school hopefully as part of a M.D./P.H.D. program that will set him up for a future in medical research or the immunological world.  In January 2008 he participated in a study abroad opportunity in Ecuador and the Galapagos as part of a biology course.

 

2006 winner ~ Brian White

Brian White is beginning his third year at The Evergreen State College, in Olympia.  Last year he enrolled in two different computer programming classes and now has a better understanding of how computers function.  This coming year, he is signed up for yet another a computer programming class and plans to broaden his horizons by studying biology when his schedule allows.  He continues to play tennis and work on his Japanese.

 

2007 Winner ~ Kristin Norberg

Kristin Norberg is beginning her second year at Washington State University where she has settled into college life and continues to study biology and pursue Occupational Therapy.

 

2008 winner ~ David Marshall

David Marshall is a recent graduate of Capital High School where he participated in band, swimming, soccer, and cross-country while completing several rigorous International Baccalaureate classes.  David had serviced others through volunteering for the Foundation for the Self-Sufficiency in El Salvador, Habitat for Humanity, Bread and Roses and Olympia Food Bank.  He plans to attend Western next year and focus on pre-physical therapy/biology.

2009 winner ~ Mackenzie Midles

The Griffin School Foundation awarded the sixth annual Cody Brown Memorial Scholarship to former Griffin student and Capital High School graduate, Mackenzie Midles in June, 2009. Mackenzie’s school activities included CHS Cheer, CHS Mascot, DECA, ASB, Theatre, and CISPUS Outdoor School counselor.  You may have seen her over the years at the CHS athletic events as the Cougar Mascot. She has also served her community through the Hands on Children’s Museum, Vacation Bible Schools and other service groups.  One of Mackenzie’s teachers said it best, “The best word to me that describes Kenzie is “Sparkle”. Mackenzie has a sparkle for life and gives everyone around her that uplifting feeling.”  Mackenzie plans on attending Washington State University in the fall to study communications.  She will receive a $1,000 scholarship to apply towards her education. Warmest congratulations Mackenzie!
